Golden girl

How amazing is this shot by Patrick Demarchelier? So pretty, with an eery, fairytale/fantasy quality. I would never have thought the words "gold", "foil" and "headpiece" could come together to describe a piece with an effect this stunning!

Art in fashion

Amazing detail on this Alexander McQueen gown...appears sculpted out of grain!

J. Mendel

How absolutely gorgeous is this evening wear collection by J. Mendel? Always one of the designers whose collections I obsess over, these are the sorts of dramatically beautiful frocks I wear in my dreams.

Fringed frenzy

Fringe has been one of those big recent trends that I have mixed feelings about. On the one hand, done in modest doses I think it can add cute flair to a look; on the other, in larger doses, it just seems so...overwhelming. Like Cowboy girl-meets-Citygirl gone wrong.

The "Coronado" by Testament dress (pictured last) is a subtle take on the fringe trend, with just a delicate smattering lining the hem and bodice of the dress which I think it adorable and adds to the overall look and feel. This would be the perfect little number for a summer picnic out during those June weekends in New York!

Burberry blues

How great is this ensemble from Burberry? Clean, simple, chic, and importantly it looks COMFORTABLE. I am increasingly unwilling to sacrifice comfort for style.

Leather quest

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! I spent mine with the family, blissfully gorging. My mom, as usual, prepared enough food to feed about 50 people.

In the meantime, I've resumed my hunt for the perfect black leather jacket as the one I've been wearing for the last three years went mysteriously missing during our last apartment move. Some potential picks:

Michael Kors 'Moto' jacket. I like how this can be worn two ways for two distinctly different looks, collar flipped up:

Versus collar flipped down:

Another Michael Kors pick, 'Ronnie' Leather Scuba Jacket

Memories of Tokyo

Check out this great video of Scott Schuman (aka The Sartorialist) as he photographs stylish Tokyo dwellers. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel to Tokyo back in 2007 and it's one of my favorite cities. Watching this video took me right back to what it felt to walk the streets there, the wonderful people watching, and this terrific energy in the air.

Wish list for a sunnier climate

We'll need to take a trip to Mexico within the next couple of months to check out some potential wedding destinations in person before making a decision. While I'm feeling a little frantic with the prospect of planning a wedding and starting a new job within the next month looming large, as a travel addict, I'm always thrilled with the prospect of taking another trip.

Here's some of the summery frocks, swimwear and assorted other lovely items I'd love to bring on a trip to a warmer climate:

A breezy, sexy maxi dress to wear during day time jaunts around time and during dinner.

A sunny, glamorous yellow bikini to lounge around in on the beach.

Chic sandal with a modest heel to add a boost, but low enough to walk around in all day.

Embellished cover up sweater to throw on at the beach.

My go-to basic for every occasion and an absolute travel necessity: a comfy, deep-V neck tee to wear with everything, in every climate.

A pair of shorts that can be dressed down with flats for daytime sightseeing, and dressed up with heels or wedges for evenings out.

A lightweight bag that can be worn cross-body to keep hands free. I wore this Kooba bag while climbing around the dusty, amazing temple ruins of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, which luckily enough had a strap long enough to wear cross body.

A sweater to throw on when evenings get chillier, or when faced with intense AC indoors.
