Tame on the outside, bright inside

I've always had a liking for brightly colored lingerie and underthings, probably because I'm strictly a neutrals girl when it comes to outerwear. This fuchsia bralette from Hanky Panky, available at Revolve Clothing, allows me to add a nice, secret jolt of color to my wardrobe without forcing me to stray too far from my beloved nudes and grays.

Latest in drool-worthy: Fleur Wood

My heart may have stopped for a full minute when I saw images from Fleur Wood's Summer 2009 collection:

These are exactly the sort of ethereal, simple, fluttery things I want to run around in all summer. Fleur Wood's gorgeous frocks and lingerie could probably incite a full-on, "I'm a fairy princess!" fantasy even in those of us well beyond our schoolyard years.
See Fleur Wood for locations and where to buy.

La Perla sample sale

Could it be true?

According to blog Fashionista, it is indeed. La Perla will be having a sample sale from April 19 to April 24. I've recently added lingerie and underthings to my list of retail addictions (as if the list needed to get any longer), so news of this sale both deeply excites me and horribly freaks me out -- I fear for my wallet. So if you're a fellow dweller of the City that Never Sleeps, hie yourself over to 4 West 58th Street, 4th Floor on the 19th.

Journelle

As part of my recent lingerie kick, I've been wandering in and out of several great little shops in my area. My absolute fave of the bunch is Journelle, on 17th street in New York. It has a selection of pieces that all have this fantastic, 1930-s boudoir feel. Plus the dressing rooms in the back are complete luxury: enormous, with bottled water and magazines. I'm not advocating anything here, but if you're one of those people who've fantasized about doing something naughty in a dressing room, Journelle is the perfect place to do it. Not that I myself have ever had such a thought, of course.

Up close & personal

I've been getting a lot more into lingerie and underthings in general, which I used to be apathetic about. I seriously think I wore the same, three, white and nude bras from the GAP for all four years of college.

These days I've discovered a whole new world of fun underthings -- either because I enjoy intimate wear more now, or as my sister recently suggested to me, I've just run out of other things to buy (a very real possibility).

Silk, satin or mesh styles are my favorite because they don't show under clothing. Cosabella's Soire Molded bra , available at Tobi, looks cute and comfortable, and the bright lilac hue is a nice way to give yourself a secret pick-me-up throughout the day.

Mellow Yellow

Yellow is everywhere for spring and I'm loving it. When you think about it, practically everything great is yellow! The sun, lemons. Oh. Just thought of something else that is too. Ew. OK, well proof that for better or for worse, we can't avoid yellow!

Some great takes on yellow for this season:

Jcrew merino sequin chiffon shell.

Anthropologie 'In-Between-Seasons' cardigan
Great, wearable basic in a sunny yellow.

Candie's chain satchel at Kohl's. Was frankly shocked when I discovered this -- this is the second, cute and affordable bag in as many weeks that I've seen featured from Kohl's. Beginning of a trend?

Feel sunny inside AND out with lemon-hued bras and panties. Above, Urban Outfitters 'All Over Triangle Bra'. Below, Charlotte Russe Striped 'Cheeky' Panties.

Even the boys get to play to with Beard Head's whimsical Viking Edition Beard Hat.

Forever 21 Cyprien Straight Leg Jeans.
Post-college, early twenties or not,
I now feel weird shopping at this
perennial teenybopper favorite.
That they continually produce dirt-cheap, spot-on variations of the trends keeps us all a comin' back -- age 21 or not. Case in point: these kicky lemon jeans.
